Disciplines

The Graduate Program in Economic Sciences has one area of concentration, Economic Theory, and two research fields: Applied Economics and Economic Development, for both the Master's and PhD Programs. Economic Development deals with regional aspects of labor, the environment, the Brazilian economy, the economy of Paraná and mathematical economics.

Applied Economics, on the other hand, deals with aspects related to growth and economic cycles, monetary economics, agribusiness economics, industrial organization, sectoral studies, applied regional economics, as well as recent topics such as the economics of crime, the economics of corruption, the economics of religion, health economics and the evaluation of public policies.

Labs

PCE also has two other laboratories, which are used by professors, students and visiting researchers. The first is LEAU - UEM's Agribusiness Studies Laboratory (room 113, building B08), currently coordinated by permanent professor Ricardo Luis Lopes. This laboratory is part of the Agricultural and Agribusiness Center (CAA), which is part of COMCAP (Complex of Research Support Centers). The latter is the result of funds raised by UEM from the Ministry of Science and Technology, through calls for tenders from the Financier of Studies and Projects (Finep)/Infrastructure Sector Fund (CT-INFRA), located in blocks B8 and B9 at UEM.

The second corresponds to the Interdisciplinary Laboratory for Regional and Sustainable Development (LDR), coordinated by PCE professors, which began to be used by them and the program's students in December 2018. This laboratory was funded by FINEP (Financier of Studies and Projects) and SETI (Secretary of Science, Technology and Higher Education of the State of Paraná), in the institutional project called "Implementation and consolidation of research infrastructure for emerging groups at the State University of Maringá", in 2010.
