The aim of this analysis is to present the set out of the analysis from the brazilian electric market. It is based on the game theory as an instrumental analysis of the competition in this sector. It comes in a way to easy the action of the regulation agents. In the first moment, the objective is on the general concepts to understand this study. It is showing how the market is built and which were the aspects that took it to rebuild the sector. After this, the article shows the necessary items to the definition of the rules and the importance of the regulator sector. Then it presents the principles that the economic regulation is based on. Then, it will show some concepts of the game theory and how it will be used on the long period sector's analysis. To finish, the electricity market is seen as a Stackelberg competitive environment, being the state intervention incorporated and considered part of the rules of the game. This conception of market is compatible with current the proposal of institutional model of the Brazilian electric sector and can contribute for the current quarrel around its implementation.
