The aims of this work is to show the existent relationship between working time and employment level through the analysis of the process of working time reduction in France and in Germany since 1970. For to reach this aims at, firstly it will be made an analysis since the beginning of the decade of 1970 to the end of the decade of 90 with relationship to the changes in the political-economical conduct, in the production processes and in the evolution of the unemployment rates. Soon after it will be made a brief rising of the historical processes of working time reduction, in way to base the theoretical discussion on the theme to the light of the Marxist theory and of the current proposals on the advantages and disadvantages of the use of the working time reduction to reduce the unemployment. The process of working time reduction will also be analyzed in France and in Germany and your impact in the rates of form unemployment to give subsidies to understand the process of working time reduction in Brazil in the end of the decade of 1980. With base in the analysis of France and of Germany the conclusion is arrived that the working time reduction was important for the reduction of the unemployment rates in these countries. In the case of Brazil it is ended that the process of working time reduction in Brazil in the end of the decade of 1980 was not significant for the reduction of the given unemployment the institutional configuration in that was adopted.
